Lastnight we had the honor of attending the graduation for our Firefighter/EMT Mason Stanford who completed the rigorous Pima Community College Public Safety and Emergency Services Institute Fire Academy.
This training is not only difficult physically, but also mentally with 40+ quizzes, exams all culminating with the Arizona Center For Fire Service Excellence testing, in firefighting knowledge, Hazardous Materials exam, and of course the multiple psychomotor skills testing.
Mason started with MJFD 10/15/2023 as a volunteer firefighter coming from another local volunteer department and was hired as our second full time firefighter in July of 2024.
He completed his Emergency Medical Technician certification a while back and is now awaiting his written test scores on the fire exams. When he receives these, he will have achieved his State of Arizona Firefighter I/II and HAZMAT FRO, wildland basics and Rope Rescue 1 certifications. This will bring all of our full time FF’s to the same certification levels.
