Our Mission

The mission of the MJFD is to protect lives and property by providing residents and visitors of the Mescal-J6 Fire District with as modern and as effective fire, rescue, and emergency medical services as possible.

We dedicate ourselves to a proactive approach of training, fire prevention, and planning, while also fostering community awareness of and participation in fire safety matters.

We will fulfill the trust placed in us by our community by being prepared for fires, accidents, and other emergencies that may occur; and by executing our services in a safe and respectful manner, with the least possible risk to life, injury, and damage to property.

Chief Ed Nied - Mescal J6 Fire Department

Meet Chief Ed Nied

Chief Ed Nied is a 37-year veteran of the fire and rescue services spending his early days as an EMT, then Paramedic FF with Rural Metro, followed by a 25-year career with the City of Tucson Fire Department where he rose to the rank of Deputy Fire Chief. He then spent time with the City of Casa Grade Fire Department as Assistant Fire Chief.

He holds a Master’s Degree in Fire Service Administration, a Bachelor’s in Fire Service Management and three Associates Degrees including Fire Science and Paramedicine He is a graduate of the prestigious Executive Fire Officer Program from the National Fire Academy, and has numerous certifications, awards, and other noteworthy accomplishments.

Chief Nied has been an author or co-author on numerous fire-related projects such as Fire Ground Survival and the soon-to-be released Incident Safety Officer hybrid course. Chief Nied is an experienced fire service consultant in the areas of strategic planning and NFPA 1500 evaluations.

He has been married for 42 years to his wife Pam and they enjoy their two daughters and five grandchildren. He has hobbies of bodybuilding (where he is an OCB pro), hunting and fly fishing.
